Norméca of Cherbourg Wins a Contract With les Chantiers de l’Atlantique

Norméca, a company based in the port area of Les Mielles in Tourlaville, has worked for the Saint-Nazaire shipyard in the past. Their long-term collaboration was the source of a new contract that promises two years of work.

The company is running at full speed

Norméca is a company specializing in boilers and plumbing. Its highly qualified know-how serves unusual projects like the Odessa, a restaurant floating on the Seine at the foot of the TF1 Tower. The collaboration with Les Chantiers de l'Atlantique also generates extraordinary projects such as the manufacture of 15 giant swimming pools for its cruise ships. Warning: exceptional convoys! The 45-tonne steel hulls are transported to port under police escort. Among other tailor-made projects, a metal skeleton decorated the inner courtyard of the Harmony of the seas. Currently, it is a question of equipping three ships destined for the Royal Caribbean company with spars and monumental arches. Projects of oversized proportions, perfectly sized for Norméca, which is boosting its staff and filling up its order book for the next two years.

Technical challenges

XXL Achievements: spars installed on the upper deck of the ships and new arches 60 meters (197 ft) long by 20 meters (65 ft) high will be crafted for the titans of the seas.  Each aluminum arch represents 50,000 hours of work and five to six months of effort for the company. Two-thirds of the workshops in the Miellas field will have to be maintained dust-free. The arches will be prepared in several pieces, delivered to Saint-Nazaire by special convoy and assembled for two months on the ships by Norméca workers.

This should bring a smile to the faces of Stéphane and Jean-Pierre Brunet, the directors of Norméca. Their company has a bright future!
