The whole world loves French cuisine. Each region has its specialties of which it can be proud. The city of Lorient is located in the department of Morbihan, in the region of Bretagne. Whether you are on vacation or just passing through, we recommend you try these dishes and local products that are part of the region’s reputation.
You prefer savory?
South Brittany and especially Lorient port city, allows you to enjoy seafood. You can thus savor delicious fish, shellfish and seafood assortments: mussels, oysters, crab, clam, crayfish, lobster, spider crab, ... etc. You can enjoy them in a restaurant or pick some up at the markets.
As for charcuterie, you can try Guémené andouille. As the name suggests, it is a specialty of the town of Guémené-sur-Scorff and consists of pork intestines arranged in concentric circles. You can taste it sliced on a piece of bread with salted butter.
A few dozen kilometers from Lorient, you can also visit the la belle-iloise cannery in Quiberon and buy some canned fish.
Do not leave Lorient without having enjoyed a buckwheat pancake with a bowl of cider or a glass of chouchen, a Breton aperitif similar to mead.
