The footballer Gaëtane Thiney, native of Troyes, prepares for the Women's World Cup from June 7 to July 7, 2019

As interest in women's football skyrockets, Gaëtane Thiney has no intention to be sidelined in June 2019

An attacker who likes challenges

If at first you don't succeed, Troyes, Troyes again. Although Gaëtane experienced two difficult periods (June 2015- September 2016), the leader of the Blues is fully expecting to be back in the game this time. The official list of 23 players will be unveiled in the first half of May and it is better to start preparation in advance in order to be on your best game on D-Day!

A woman with both head and heart

Gaëtane makes no secret of her determination and wants to make a big impression. But this determined young woman has several strings to her bow. For the FFF, she is a advisor in charge of the development of football for children and holds a position attached to the Ministry of Sports. A woman committed to fighting against cystic fibrosis, she is godmother to the Leo Team Association to give Leonie (a young CF sufferer) a breath of fresh air.

A high-voltage World Cup

"The legacy we want to leave behind via this world cup is very important. We had 82,000 licensed players in 2011, today there are 165,000 of us. We are aiming for the 200,000 mark in 2019," says Brigitte Henriques, vice president of the federation. This Women's World Cup could make women's football take on another dimension. After the exploit of the Blues last year, it is a whole sector that hopes for the economic benefits of a world cup. Funding, membership and women's sections could blossom. At age 33, Gaëtane is a safe bet who's been around for a long time.

And the stadiums are being taken by storm! Half of the seats are already sold and some matches are sold out. If get started too late, do not panic, you'll still be in the front row: the 25 best matches of the World Cup will be broadcast on the TF1 French Television station!
