Registration for the BERMUDA LORIENT - PURE OCEAN CHALLENGE 2022 is open

Registration for the BERMUDA LORIENT - PURE OCEAN CHALLENGE 2022 is open

This new transatlantic race "BERMUDA LORIENT - PURE OCEAN CHALLENGE" participates in the outreach of Lorient The Base and permanently anchors the territory of Lorient in its status as a site 100% dedicated to offshore racing;

A transatlantic race open to all classes of sailboats

The race is organized by the Pure Ocean Foundation *, Absolute Dreamer and Lorient Grand Large. This sailing challenge across the Atlantic replaces the previous Pure Ocean Challenge between Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and Lorient, the editions of which took place in 2020 and 2021. The kick-off of this rallying event will be given on May 8, 2022 from Saint George's in the Bermudas. The aim is to cover the 2880 nautical miles between Saint George's and Lorient over a nine-day period.

An "other" race

The vocation of Bermuda Lorient-pure Ocean Challenge is to respond to the urgency to safeguard the oceans. Registration is free but each participant will be encouraged to donate 1000 euros or more to Pure Ocean. All the skippers who participate in this environmental challenge have the mission of raising awareness among the general public about the problems of the ocean and the need to protect it, collecting data useful for scientific studies and raising funds for ocean research. An exemplary commitment in terms of respect for the environment and minimum impact (waste management on board, knowledge of cetacean routes to avoid collisions...) is required for all participants.

Take up the sports challenge!

The objective of the rally is also to beat the benchmark times of the historic Lorient-Les Bermudes-Lorient race, the two editions of which (1979 and 1983) marked the media debut of the offshore race in France: in a 12-day, 23-hour and 28-minute monohull won by Fernande skippered by Jean-Claude Parisis and Olivier de Rosny in 1979 and in a 12-day, 23-hour and 16-minute multihull by William Saurin skippered by Eugène Riguidel and Jean-François le Menecin 1983. But no time limit is set to cross the finish line!

Pure Ocean will organize the awards ceremony in May 2022 to reward the best times and the most committed boats for the Ocean (fundraising, scientific data collection, awareness...).

Notice to all skippers! Registrations are to be returned to Lorient Grand Large before May 1, 2022
