On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, Smart-appart celebrates World Ocean Day

"The ocean, life and livelihood" will be the theme of the World Ocean Day 2021: a declaration of intent as a declaration of love to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources by 2030.

On June 8, 2021, the French Minister of national education Jean-Michel Blanquer will exchange in videoconference with students from Brest who have been thinking hard about the protection of the Ocean. Brittany is a worthy figurehead of the maritime wealth of France, country which has the second largest maritime space in the world with more than 10 million km2 (3.8 million sq. miles). We enjoy rich assets in terms of marine heritage and maritime economic growth. All initiatives are good for bringing out collective ideas and initiatives.

Thinking about a sustainable management project

Produced by the Division for Ocean Affairs and Maritime Law of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, in partnership with the non-profit organization Oceanic Global, the annual event was launched in 1992 on the occasion of the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This year, it will raise awareness of the crucial role that the oceans play in our livelihoods, as well as the different ways that exist to protect them.

A vital role in our livelihood

Oceans cover more than two-thirds of the earth and play an essential role in regulating climates, air and water quality. They produce at least 50% of the planet's oxygen and are home to most of the earth's biodiversity. They are also an important source of food and medicine and are an essential part of the biosphere. But 90% of large fish populations are already depleted and 50% of coral reefs are destroyed: their resources are depleted faster than they renew. We must therefore urgently find a new balance by establishing an inclusive, innovative and responsible relationship.
